Description
In full Regency blue straight grained morocco binding. Three parts in one folio volume (50.5 x 35.5 cm). Half title, frontispiece portrait by E. Scriven after G. Kugelgen, title of first part, [4] ll. dedications and prefaces, each part with own title and list of plates, 100 hand-coloured aquatint plates after Atkinson, each with text leaf in English and French; light, very occasional browning. Contemporary dark blue morocco by Sotherans, covers with large, elaborate gilt border, spine with raised bands gilt in compartments, gilt lettering to one, all edges gilt; slightly rubbed at extremities. Bookplate affixed to front pastedown. All plates carry the signature drawn and etched by Augustus Atkinson as well as the addresses of the editors and the date of publication. Atkinson was an English artist, who traveled extensively in Russia in the 1780' s & 1790's. A beautifully bound copy. Text in English and French.
