Description
1 vol. grand in-4. 19th century bright red half-morocco; gilt bands and title to spine; marbled endpapers; top edge gilt; good condition; An album of 24 delightful water-colours (20 x 17 cm), highlights in gouache. This album dates from the second part of the 18th century. Not signed. The paper has the water-mark 'IH' which indicates it is probably from the famous Netherlands paper-making industry. This work shows a play (unidentified) performed at the relevant time, the characters are in their role costumes. There is a (loose insert) notice from the 'Librairie Nicaise', from Paris, saying that this album has come from the collection of Louis Jouvet, famous French actor.
