Folio (43 x 28.5 cm), text watermarked 1825, 61 hand-coloured aquatint plates after drawings by John Clarke, on Whatman paper dated 1827; without half-title, offsetting from plates to text, contemporary maroon morocco gilt re-backed preserving spine, corners repaired, lightly rubbed. A most important work on bivalves and univalves - including many Pacific specimens. Twenty-three specimens are from New Holland and Van Diemen's Land; 10 from New Zealand; 15 from the South Seas; 2 from The Pacific Islands; 1 from Otaheite. Some specimens identified as being from the collections of Mrs Bligh, Mr Latham, and from the museums of Mr Bullock and Sir Ashton Lever. The book was possibly issued in parts over a number of years from (approx) 1811 with variations as to make up of text, date of plates, and identity of printers.
