Japanese Leporello Album Illustrating Facial Expressions.
N.d., late 19th/early 20th century.
26 hand-coloured generally humorous illustrations about facial expressions, given in Japanese and in English; Each panel is 6.75" x 4.75" or 17 x 12 cm. The still crepe paper covers have a typical willow tree illustration; without a title, this work gives no hint at the broad trenchant caricatures that lie within. The exterior has some light soiling; illustrations are incredibly bright and vivid. New slipcase to preserve contents. *Rebinding and restoration work on this book was carried out by Ron Norman of Hartlepool. (*
